As the peace movement of the country that has suffered the nuclear attack, we mount our strong protest against the subcritical nuclear test conducted by your government on December 13, 2017.

In the “Nuclear Posture Review” your government released last February, more than ever you showed an increased readiness of actually using nuclear weapons, as seen in the plan to modernize existing arsenals and develop new nuclear weapons, to which we have already expressed our protest.

The recent revelation of the U.S. nuclear test carried out prior to the announcement of the NPR and your plan to conduct another test coming December will undoubtedly lead to further nuclear proliferation and accelerated nuclear arms race. This will totally run counter to the aspiration of the overwhelming majority of the world’s governments and people and we strongly denounce it.

We urge your government not to conduct any more nuclear tests in whatever form.  Once again we call on you to cancel and withdraw the plan of nuclear armament and the policy of nuclear use, included in the NPR.  At the same time, towards the achievement of a “nuclear weapon-free world” promised by your country, we urge you to take such actions in a sincere manner as to implement the agreements reached at the Review Conferences of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and to join the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.
