Vientiane, 2 August 2024

Your Excellency,

On behalf of the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic and Lao people of all ethnic groups, I would like to extend my warmest greetings and sincere congratulations to the Organizing Committee and all participants at the 2024 World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs to be held on 03-09 August 2024 in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan.

I am delighted with the successful outcome of the Second Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) in November 2023, especially the adoption of some important documents, which reaffirm the State Parties’ efforts and commitments to prohibit nuclear weapons and prevent their catastrophic consequences as well as their determination to effectively implement the Treaty and relevant international instruments.

I firmly believe that building on Hiroshima Declaration adopted at the previous conference with the aim of achieving a nuclear weapon-free world, the World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs in 2024 will continue to serve as an important forum for all participants to actively engage in a frank and constructive exchange of views and inputs for promoting the international community’s efforts and commitments to address this issue and call for dialogues and settlement of conflicts, especially those with high risk that may lead to the use of atomic and hydrogen bombs.

On behalf of the Government and the people of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, I wish the 2024 World Conference against Atomic and Hydrogen Bombs a great success contributing towards a nuclear-free world.

(Signed and Sealed) Thongloun SISOULITH
